Every diamond is unique. Yet all diamonds share certain features that allow us to compare and evaluate them. These features are called the 4Cs. The beauty of a diamond is determined by all four. Lesser diamonds and industrial quality diamonds are often cut so people can get a bigger size but lack the whiteness and fire of better quality stones.
Parchment Jewellers believes that when making such an important purchase as a diamond the customer should receive the brightest, clearest and most sparkling stone, whose quality will never fade.
Colour - The Diamond Colour Scale extends from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Gem quality stones are those that have a colour rating from D to G.
Clarity - The Diamond Clarity Scale includes eleven clarity grades ranging from Flawless to I3. Gem quality stones are those that are VS and above.
Cut - A polished diamond’s beauty lies in its complex relationship with light, which produces a combination of fire (flash of rainbow colours from within) and brilliance (the burst of sparkling light). It is the cut of the diamond that determines this.
Carat Weight - One carat equals 200 milligrams in weight. For diamonds under one carat, each carat is divided into 100 points – similar to pennies in a pound. 0.75 ct. = 75 points, 1/2 ct. = 50 points.
